Baba Sus, Glen Iris

I've heard about Baba Sus and their egg waffles, so I was pretty excited to visit yesterday. We were there to catch up with an old friend and her little doggy, so the outdoor seating was perfect for us.

For drinks, hubby and I shared a coconut and watermelon shake, which sounded and looked promising, but unfortunately fell short of expectations. It tasted quite bland and lacking - not something we would order again.

The egg waffles, however, were a completely different story. Despite the fact that we were sitting outside in 10 degree weather, I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out their egg waffles. It came served with vanilla custard, berry compote, green tea ice cream and pistachio praline. I found all the toppings to be in just the right amount, everything worked well together and there wasn't a single component that overpowered everything else. The egg waffles themselves were delicious too - puffy little bubbles of goodness!

Hubby ordered 'The Hangover' - congee with braised pork belly, tea egg, preserved cucumber and spring onion. I thought it was just a tad too expensive, but then again we were at a café, not an Asian restaurant! It was delicious though, and I especially enjoyed the tea egg. It was a beautiful bowl of comfort food, but our only complaint was that it wasn't hot enough!

This was my friend's avocado smash - pretty sure our two dogs got to sample more bread than she did.

Overall, I really liked their different breakfast offerings (it is always a plus when you serve more than just eggs on toast..). We would love to come back to try some of their other dishes - everything on their lunch menu sounds pretty delicious!
