Brown Cow Cafe, Hampton

I'm on a roll here! We were looking for some breakfast on the weekend and decided on Brown Cow in Hampton after seeing some interesting dishes on the menu. When we arrived, we were surprised that it wasn't a cosy little café, rather, a large establishment with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors that also served lunch and dinner.

I wanted something to warm me up and their hot chocolate did the trick, although I did find it a little too sweet.

One of the two dishes that I really wanted to try was the cauliflower and lemongrass fritters with soft shell crab. I was so excited about the crab that I must have completely skipped over the other ingredients - imagine my surprise when it arrived with topped with shallots, pomegranate and fish sauce! Surprisingly, everything worked alright together but I did find that the individual flavours were battling rather than complementing each other.

The other dish was the breakfast ramen which came with pork belly, oyster mushrooms, a poached egg and soup was served in a separate bowl. Hubby initially had a suspicion that the soup wasn't going to be enough but he was proven wrong. The mushrooms were the star of the dish, lightly fried and oh so yummy! It was generally not a bad dish, but we found it a tad salty and I personally wasn't too fond of the noodles they used.

Although the experience was pleasant, we thought that the food was rather average. I like that they offer lots of variety, but I wouldn't be rushing back.
