Captains Creek, Blampied

Our last stop for our weekend in Hepburn Springs was Captains Creek, an organic farm in Blampied, which was about 10 minutes drive away. It had been rainy all weekend, but it miraculously cleared right after we left our spa session. We were so lucky!

We got a table in the outdoor dining area, which wasn't too bad as the heaters kept us warm (although they did run out of gas for a short period of time!).

I had a hot chocolate to start off with, which was a little bland.

For our mains, we ordered the tasting plate for two to share, which was a beautiful spread of local organic produce and homemade delicacies. There were olives, walnuts, sourdough bread, trio of dips, a selection of vegetables and cold meats. It was lovely and light, though I thought there could have been more distinction between the three dips in terms of taste.

We decided to continue our indulgence with a slice of chocolate hazelnut cake with ice cream each. It was recommended that we had a look inside at the selection of cakes before making an order, and we should have taken that advice! Each slice was humongous! If we had realised it was going to be so big we probably would have just ordered one to share. It was rich and moist, but overwhelmingly large, so we weren't able to finish it. It would be perfect to share between two, or even three people.

Overall, the food was good but not spectacular. However, it would be worth it just to visit for its setting. Next to us our table was a family who was having an afternoon just as relaxing as ours, chatting over lunch while their child ran and played happily with a soccer ball on the grass. I can see how you could easily laze away the afternoon in such a beautiful surrounding, accompanied by good food and wine!
