Crabapple Kitchen, Hawthorn

A weekend off means a call for a nice breakfast, don't you think? We recently headed to Crabapple Kitchen, Hawthorn (told you I love this place) for breakfast. We went early but when we arrived it was already hustling and bustling. We we were lucky to score a table at the back of the café not long after we went in.

Because I wasn't feeling very well, I decided to go for something smaller. I ended up getting the bacon and egg burger with brioche bun, which didn't end up being very small at all.


It was so delicious! My first experience with brioche was a little off-putting but I'm glad I gave it another try. The bun was so light and fluffy. Sandwiched between were an egg and plenty of bacon, dressed with generous amounts of HP sauce and aioli. They probably could have cut back on the dressings a little but nevertheless it was a very satisfying breakfast. Now that I have fallen in love with brioche, I can only try to forget how it is made (so delicious yet sinful!).



Other dishes that were ordered around the table included big breakfast, avocado on toast and garlic and thyme mushrooms from top to bottom. I wasn't in the prime position to properly sneak a few bites of everyone else's food, but I did taste the scrambled eggs and mushrooms and they were oh so tasty.

Ultimately, it was a good place for breakfast, but I'd definitely rather enjoy my mornings in more peaceful cafés. I'm also not sure what other dishes to try, so if I do return I might come back during lunch hour to expand my options (I'm looking at you, crabapple sliders!). What do you think of this place?
